Teave
Kiired faktid: Igal hommikul kõnnivad kümned paabulinnud uhkelt mööda templi maa-ala, nende hüüded kajavad vastu 37 meetri kõrgust gopuram-torni, mis on kaetud enam kui 1200 nikerdatud jumalusega. Shivat kummardatakse siin paabulinnuna, mis on haruldane vorm, mida leidub Indias ainult selles templis.
Esiletõstmised: Igal märtsil toimuval Arupathimoovari festivalil kantakse 63 Saiva pühaku pronkskuju ümber templi tiikide tõrvikute valguses toimuvas rongkäigus, mis on katkematult kestnud üle 1200 aasta. Õhk täitub põleva kampri terava lõhna ja templitrummide rütmilise löögiga, kui tuhanded pühendunud järgnevad paljajalu õõtsuvate kanderaamide järel.
Sisekujunduse nõuanded
- Go between 6-7:30 AM to witness the calmest puja ceremonies before tour buses arrive around 9 AM.
- Remove shoes before entering and store them at the free shoe stand near the main entrance, not with street vendors.
- Stand under the 500-year-old banyan tree in the northeast corner for the best angle of the gopuram without people in the frame.
- Skip visiting between 12-4 PM when the temple closes for the afternoon siesta, a tradition maintained for centuries.
