Teave
Kiired faktid: Pühendatud jumal Šivale, asub see tempel Kavvayi tagaveekogude kaldal Põhja-Keralas. Peamine jumalus on iseilmnenud (Swayambhu) Šiva lingam, mille kohalikud usuvad olevat avastanud põllumees sajandeid tagasi oma põldu kündes.
Esiletõstmised: Erinevalt enamikust Kerala templitest, millel on kõrguvad gopuramid, on pühamu siin väike ja madala laega ehitis, kuhu sisenemiseks tuleb kummarduda, luues intiimse kohtumise jumalusega. Iga-aastasel Kalashami festivalil süüdatakse templitiikides korraga üle 10 000 õlilambi, nende peegeldused lainetavad mustal veel, kui preestrid loevad iidseid veedalikke hümne.
Sisekujunduse nõuanded
- Visit during the Malayalam month of Kumbham (Feb-March) to witness the spectacular 10,000-lamp Kalasham festival.
- Wear traditional attire like mundu for men and saree or salwar for women, or at least cover shoulders and knees.
- The best photographs come from the backwater-facing side of the temple during golden hour, not from the main entrance.
- Arrive before 8 AM to avoid the crowds that start gathering after the morning rush of pujas.
