Trakai is a small, safe lakeside town near Vilnius popular for its island castle. Tourist scams here are relatively minor, mostly centered around transport and dining near the castle. The main things to watch are unofficial rides from Vilnius and overpriced food and drink in the castle tourist zone.

3. Poor rate exchange booths

4. Boat rental overcharges

- 40 €. Inspectors issue on-the-spot fines for riding without a validated ticket in Vilnius transit. Pay promptly to avoid escalation.

- Contactless bank cards work on Vilnius buses and trains with tap-on validation in most newer vehicles. No daily cap is widely advertised for tourists.

Jootraha: Not expected but appreciated for good service. Round up the bill or leave 5 to 10 percent in restaurants and cafes. Taxi drivers do not expect tips.
