Teave

Kiired faktid: Vasily Surikov, Russia's great historical painter, was born in this 1830s wooden house in 1848. The estate preserves his family's Cossack heritage and contains over 100 of his personal belongings, including his actual paintbrushes and palette.

Esiletõstmised: The family's Cossack corner holds a genuine 18th-century saber and chainmail worn by Surikov's ancestors, letting you touch the same metal they carried into battle. You can stand in the exact room where Surikov painted his first sketches as a boy, looking out the same window onto the Yenisei River he painted throughout his life.

Sisekujunduse nõuanded

  • Don't miss the small courtyard garden where Surikov's mother grew flowers, it's easily overlooked but gives a real sense of daily life.
  • Photography is allowed inside but no flash, the natural light from the river-facing windows creates the best shots.
  • Combine your visit with the Surikov Art Museum across town to see his major canvases after visiting his home.
  • The wooden stairs are steep and narrow, wear sturdy shoes and watch your head on the low doorways.
