If you are looking for top things to do in Tatranskajaomnica, Slovakia, start with the Tatranská Lomnica Cable Car, which climbs 2,634 meters to Lomnický štít Peak in under 15 minutes. At the summit, survey the High Tatras from a 360-degree observation deck. Then explore hiking trails through Tatra National Park (TANAP), home to alpine meadows and rare chamois goats.

1. Tatranská Lomnica Cable Car

4.4 (138)
HuvipunktAsutus

Soar 1,730 vertical meters in under 15 minutes for views that stretch across three countries. You'll glide from pine forests past alpine meadows and finally above the rocky lunar landscape of the High Tatras.

Kiired faktid: The cable car whisks passengers from 903 meters up to 2,634 meters at Lomnické sedlo, making it one of Europe's steepest aerial tramways. Its two separate sections include a 15-person cabin for the first leg, then a larger 40-person cabin for the final breathtaking ascent above the tree line.

Esiletõstmised: At the top station perched at 2,634 meters, you can step onto an open viewing platform that juts out over a 300-meter sheer drop into the Velická valley below. On clear days, the panoramic sweep reveals three different countries: Slovakia, Poland, and a sliver of Ukraine visible over the Tatra ridges.

2. Lomnický štít Peak

4.9 (1,948)
Mountain PeakLooduslik tunnusAsutus

Stand on the roof of the High Tatras without breaking a sweat. A 10-minute cable car ride delivers jaw-dropping 360-degree views over Poland, Slovakia, and the peaks beyond.

Kiired faktid: The cable car ride to the top climbs 1,224 vertical meters in just over 10 minutes. At 2,633 meters above sea level, the summit offers views spanning three countries on a clear day.

Esiletõstmised: At the very top, a small solar-powered weather station has been collecting data since the 1950s, making it one of Europe's longest-running high-altitude climate records. You can stand right next to the instruments and watch real-time wind speeds that regularly exceed 200 km/h in winter.

3. Tatra National Park (TANAP)

TANAP

4.8 (1,270)
RahvusparkTurismiobjektParkHuvipunktAsutus

Europe's wildest alpine playground hides in plain sight. Hike past thundering waterfalls and glacial lakes where golden eagles soar overhead.

Kiired faktid: Tatra National Park spans 738 square kilometers across Slovakia's highest mountain range, protecting over 1,300 species of vascular plants. More than 600 caves riddle the limestone terrain, including the 1.8-kilometer-long Belianska Cave with its intricate stalactite formations.

Esiletõstmised: At dawn, the granite peaks of Kriváň reflect across mountain lakes called plesá, turning the water an impossible shade of turquoise. Over 600 chamois, a rare goat-antelope species, nimbly scale the vertical cliffs here, their hooves finding holds invisible to the human eye.

4. Skalnaté Pleso Lake

4.9 (917)
LakeLooduslik tunnusAsutus

A crystal-clear alpine lake that feels like the roof of the High Tatras. Ride the cable car up, breathe the thin mountain air, and watch the clouds drift below the surrounding peaks.

Kiired faktid: The lake sits at 1,751 meters above sea level and is fed entirely by mountain springs and snowmelt. Its emerald-green waters reach depths of up to 8 meters, surrounded by granite boulders and hardy alpine pines.

Esiletõstmised: On windless mornings before the cable car crowds arrive, the lake mirrors the jagged peaks of Lomnický štít with such clarity that the mountain appears to rise from the water itself. The calm breaks around 10 AM when local marmots start whistling across the rocky slopes, their calls echoing off the cirque walls.

5. Tatranská Lomnica Ski Resort

4.6 (14,365)
Ski ResortTurismiobjektSporditegevuse kohtHuvipunktAsutus

Carve through some of Slovakia's steepest, most dramatic terrain above the timberline. You'll ride a futuristic cable car past ice sculptures of rock to ski back down through alpine meadows and thick pine forest.

Kiired faktid: Skiers glide down slopes that start above 2,000 meters, with the main cable car whisking them up 1,350 vertical meters in under 12 minutes. The resort shares its slopes with the Tatranská Lomnica settlement, a compact base village where trams clatter past wooden chalets and modern hotels.

Esiletõstmised: From the top of Lomnické sedlo at 2,190 meters, you can ski down a single black run that drops 1,100 vertical meters without a break, one of the longest continuous descents in Central Europe. On a clear day, the panorama from the ski lift stretches across five mountain ranges, with the sheer north face of Lomnický štít looming overhead like a granite fortress.

6. Tricklandia Tricklandia

Art GalleryTurismiobjektHuvipunktAsutus

Step into a world where nothing is as it seems and your own eyes become the tricksters. Walk through gravity-defying rooms, vanish into thin air, and capture mind-bending photos that will stump your friends.

Kiired faktid: A maze of over 200 optical illusions and trick rooms sprawls across 3,500 square meters of indoor space. Each installation plays with perspective, gravity, and perception, making visitors question what their eyes are telling them at every turn.

Esiletõstmised: One room appears completely upside down, with furniture bolted to the ceiling, yet your brain insists you're the one standing upright. Another corridor stretches just 5 meters but feels like an endless tunnel thanks to a genius arrangement of mirrors and forced perspective.

Belianska Cave

7. Belianska Cave

4.7 (9,327)
TurismiobjektHuvipunktAsutus

Step into a frozen underground world where drip by drip, nature spent millennia crafting cathedral-like chambers. You'll wind through narrow passages, past glittering crystal pools, and emerge onto a mountainside viewpoint. (170 chars)

Kiired faktid: Over 300,000 years of natural formation created the intricate maze of stalactites and stalagmites inside this mountain. The cave maintains a steady 5-7°C temperature year round, making it a refreshing escape even during summer heatwaves.

Esiletõstmised: The Hlboký dóm (Deep Dome) drops 75 meters from floor to ceiling, with a single illuminated column that seems to glow from within when the lights hit it just right. Unlike many show caves, visitors walk a one-way circuit that ends with an open-air balcony view over the Tatras, blending underworld mystery with mountain grandeur.

Bring cash. Half the smaller shops and food stalls don't take card. Had to walk 20 mins to find an ATM that worked.

The Tatras are gorgeous but this specific town felt a bit too touristy for me. Would pick a smaller village next time for a more authentic feel.

The pierogi at that little place near the bus stop changed my life. Everything was cheap compared to other Slovak ski towns I've been to.

Mixed feelings. Scenery is stunning but felt a bit dead in late September. Half the restaurants were closed already. Come in peak season or skip.

If you drive, park at the lower cable car lot before 8am. After that it fills up and you'll be stuck walking uphill for 15 mins.
