Kiired faktid: Sprawled across roughly 2.5 hectares, these gardens occupy the old site of the royal stables. The sunken parterre pond throws a perfect reflection of the palace's western facade, framed by clipped cypress hedges and stately lime trees.

On a still morning, the water turns the entire western facade into a wobbly mirror, and you'll likely have it all to yourself.
