Council Square (Piața Sfatului)
Paras aika vierailla
Weekdays early in the morning or late in the evening, when the square is free of tourist crowds and you can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. December is worth a visit because of the Christmas markets that light up the square with thousands of lights.
Budjettivinkit
The square itself is free to walk around. Entry to the Brașov History Museum in the council tower costs about 10 lei (2 euros), I recommend withdrawing cash in advance, because local ATMs charge high fees.

Tietoa
Nopeat faktat: Witch executions once took place here, and on the pavement you can still find a stone marking the spot where the pillory once stood. In the middle of the square stands the 15th-century Old Town Hall building, adorned with a clock tower and colorful roofs.
Kohokohdat: Seinien noki ei ole tulipalon seurausta, vaan tarkoituksella säilytetty patina ajoilta, jolloin sisällä lämmitettiin avotulella. Kun nostat katseesi, näet katonrajassa 700-kiloisen messinkikruunun, joka valaisee tilaa, johon mahtuu yli 3000 ihmistä.
Sisäpiirin vinkit
- Restaurants and cafés on the ground floors of buildings have more affordable menus than those with terraces directly on the square.
- The best photo is taken from the alley leading to the Black Church, from where the square is visible in all its beauty.
- Avoid the main entrance to the town hall; on weekdays the side entrance at the back of the building is open.
- On Tuesday mornings the square is at its quietest, because most tour buses arrive only after lunch.
