À propos

Faits rapides: The sprawling palace complex covers over 22 acres and contains nine temples, each with wildly different architectural styles. One of the most striking features is the 19th-century Shiva temple, topped with a massive 40-foot spire shaped like a lingam.

Points forts: Unlike most Rajbari complexes in Bangladesh which sit empty, several of these temples are still actively used for daily worship by local families. The terracotta panels on the Govinda Temple tell stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata through thousands of hand-carved scenes, each no bigger than a dinner plate.
