À propos

Faits rapides: Eight million visitors arrive each year to pay homage at this 46-meter-tall monument. The seven concrete towers represent the seven stages of the Bangladesh independence movement.

Points forts: From the top of the central tower, the sun reflects off millions of glass particles embedded in the concrete, creating an almost mystical glow at dawn. On foggy days, the towers seem to float above a white blanket that covers the surrounding gardens.

Conseils d'initiés

  • Visit early in the morning on weekdays to find yourself almost alone in front of the towers, as thousands of visitors arrive on weekends.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and bring a bottle of water; the walk from the entrance to the monument is nearly a kilometer under the sun.
  • The best photographic angle is from the reflecting pool at the foot of the monument, where the towers are perfectly mirrored.
  • Avoid national holidays if you are looking for peace and quiet; on March 26 and December 16 the place is completely full.
