The museum's collection spans 600,000 artifacts across three floors, from prehistoric times through the Bulgarian National Revival period.

Points forts: The second-floor Treasury holds the Panagyurishte Gold Treasure, nine pure gold vessels weighing over 6 kilograms that were discovered by accident in 1949 by three brothers digging clay. Each vessel is so detailed you can see tiny mythological scenes hammered into the gold with tools that predate written history in the region.
