À propos
Faits rapides: Crowds can reach 5,000 people on a busy Saturday, weaving past more than 100 stalls that sell roasted chestnuts, seasonal fruit and small-batch cheeses. You’ll catch the smell of freshly brewed espresso mixing with wood smoke from grilled sausages, while live bands play Czech folk or jazz on floating stages along the water.
Points forts: One quirky tradition has vendors ringing a bell at noon to announce the 'fresh-catch' fish arrivals, with fishermen unloading around 20 crates of river trout and carp most Saturdays. Nearby, the Novák family stall displays honey jars labeled by village and elevation, offering tasters that let you discern floral, thyme or forest notes by smell and texture.
Conseils d'initiés
- Wear comfortable shoes and a light jacket, riverside breezes can be chilly even on warm days.
- Bring small change, many stalls prefer cash and some have high card minimums.
- Start at the upstream end near Palackeho Bridge to find the best produce before it sells out.
- Skip the souvenir stalls by the metro entrance if you want authentic food and better prices.
