Faits rapides: Seule une poignée de femmes ont jamais régné sur l'ancien royaume du Nil en tant que pharaon à part entière, et cette reine a régné pendant 22 années triomphantes. Son monument empile trois terrasses à colonnades contre une falaise de près de 300 mètres de haut qui domine le sol désertique.
Points forts: Son intendant en chef Sénènmout a secrètement sculpté un petit portrait de lui-même dans un pilier à l'intérieur d'une porte, afin de veiller sur sa reine pour l'éternité. Des traces fanées de peinture bleue et rouge sur les reliefs laissent deviner que tout le complexe resplendissait autrefois de couleurs vives.

- Queue before the gates open and walk straight to the top terrace before tour groups arrive.
- A broad-brimmed hat and two full water bottles are non-negotiable, the ramps offer zero shade by late morning.
- Stand at the second terrace railing on the south end for the classic symmetric facade shot with the cliff behind.
- Ask a site guard to point out the concealed likeness, it is tiny and easy to walk right past.
