Faits rapides: Le sonnet «Ozymandias» du poète anglais Shelley a été inspiré par le colosse géant tombé au sol qui représentait Ramsès II. Le colosse mesurait autrefois environ 19 mètres de haut et pesait près de 1 000 tonnes, la tête mesurant à elle seule 2,5 mètres de long.
Points forts: La tête du colosse, d'environ 2,5 mètres de haut et de 7 tonnes, repose encore au sol, et Shelley a pris cette tête pour muse de son sonnet. L'ornement astronomique du plafond représente la déesse céleste Nout, et il est resté parfaitement intact pendant près de 3 000 ans.
