Faits rapides: Sous les lustres étincelants, une enfilade de miroirs multiplie la lumière et donne l'impression que les salles n'en finissent jamais. Dans les jardins, des bosquets sculptés et des fontaines chorégraphiées surprennent encore par leurs jeux d'eau et l'audace de leurs perspectives.
Points forts: Dans la grande galerie aux miroirs, 357 miroirs reflètent 17 fenêtres qui donnent sur les jardins; quand le soleil baisse, les ors et les cristaux se mettent à scintiller comme un incendie de petites étoiles. Le 20 juin 1789, des députés se serrèrent dans la salle du jeu de paume du domaine et prononcèrent un serment qui allait bouleverser la France, une atmosphère de papier humide, d'encre et de nervosité qui reste presque tangible.
