Faits rapides: Le monastère franciscain de Füssen abrite l'une des plus anciennes fresques de toute l'Allemagne, datant du XIIIe siècle. L'église monastique Saint-Étienne est la seule église romane conservée de la ville et son clocher offre une vue imprenable sur le panorama de Füssen.

Points forts: Sous le sol de l'église se cache une rare fresque du Christ datant de 1280, découverte tout à fait par hasard lors d'une rénovation en 1956. Les couleurs médiévales originales sont si vives qu'elles semblent avoir été peintes il y a seulement quelques années.

• At the entrance, notice the small door to the left of the main altar. It leads to the cloister with medieval frescoes that many visitors overlook.
• The best photo is from the monastery courtyard with a view of the Gothic bell tower in the background, especially in the afternoon when the sun illuminates the stone details.
• Bring a flashlight with you. The lighting in the side chapels is dim and the frescoes stand out better with direct light.
• Combine your visit with a walk to the Lech River, which is only a 3-minute walk away and offers a beautiful view of the church from a distance.
