Meilleur moment pour visiter

Visit in early morning between June and September for the clearest summit views. Winter visits are spectacular but check the weather forecast, as clouds can roll in and block visibility within minutes.

Conseils budget

A round-trip ticket costs around 60 euros per adult, but the Garmisch-Classic pass offers discounted access if you plan to ski or hike multiple days. Buy tickets online in advance to skip the queue and save a few euros.

À propos

Faits rapides: At 2,962 meters, it's Germany's highest point where you can stand without a climbing rope. The summit straddles the German-Austrian border, meaning you can literally have one foot in each country at the same time.

Points forts: The summit houses one of Germany's highest breweries, where the beer ingredients have to be hauled up by cable car and the water comes from melted glacial ice. On a clear day you can see four countries from the panoramic terrace, spotting peaks across Germany, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.

Conseils d'initiés

  • Bring sunglasses and sunscreen even in winter, the UV reflection off snow is intense at this altitude.
  • Skip the tourist-packed summit restaurant and walk 10 minutes down to Sonnalpin for better prices and equally stunning glacier views.
  • Arrive before 9 AM to catch the first cable car and have the summit nearly to yourself before the tour buses arrive.
  • Wear sturdy shoes and layers, the temperature can swing from 25°C in the valley to near freezing at the top.
