Lamma Island Hiking Trail

Meilleur moment pour visiter

Weekday mornings between 8am and 11am offer cool air, sparse crowds, and the best light over the sea. Autumn months from October through December bring the most comfortable temperatures for the exposed ridge sections.

Conseils budget

The trail is completely free, with no entry fee or permit required. The only costs are the 25 HKD ferry from Central Pier 4 and whatever you spend on the seafood lunch at Sok Kwu Wan, where hikers traditionally finish their meal.

À propos

Faits rapides: Roughly 60,000 people a year walk the 7-kilometer loop connecting the island's three villages, Sok Kwu Wan, Yung Shue Wan, and Mo Tat Wan. The trail passes the 410-million-year-old granite formations at Luk Chau, some of the oldest exposed rocks in Hong Kong.

Points forts: Around the halfway point you hit the ridge above the South China Sea, where wild boars occasionally cross your path at dusk and wind turbines hum overhead. Those three white turbines feed about 2,500 households and make this the only place in Hong Kong where you can hike straight under working renewable energy.

Conseils d'initiés

  • Bring at least 1.5 liters of water per person because there are no refill stations along the entire route
  • Wear grippy trail shoes since several sections involve rough granite steps that get slippery after rain
  • Start in Yung Shue Wan and finish at Sok Kwu Wan so your seafood lunch is the last stop before catching the ferry back
  • Skip the trail entirely on weekend afternoons when tour groups flood the path and the ridge gets congested

Notre conseil voyage n°1
