Faits rapides: Le long du lac Balaton, il s'étend sur près d'un kilomètre, avec 52 platanes centenaires formant un auvent naturel. Il doit son nom à Rabindranath Tagore, le poète indien prix Nobel qui y planta un arbre en 1926 et créa une tradition.

Points forts: Chaque année, des visiteurs du monde entier perpétuent la tradition de Tagore en plantant leurs propres arbres le long de la promenade, créant ainsi un jardin de mémoire vivant et en pleine croissance. Le parfum des tilleuls en fleurs se mêle à l'air du lac lors des soirs d'été, tandis que les branches des platanes craquent doucement au-dessus des bancs.

Conseils d'initiés

• Photograph the Tagore tree early in the morning, when the sun lights up the sign and the lake is calm.
• Bring a poetry book along and read on one of the benches under the plane trees, just like the old regulars used to.
• Avoid weekends in July and August if you want peace and quiet; prefer weekdays or early mornings.
• Combine your visit with a refreshing swim in the lake; there is a public beach a few meters away.
