Faits rapides: The 10th-century temple is covered in over 60 intricate panels depicting scenes from daily life, including a woman applying makeup and a monkey pulling a thorn from its foot. Its arched entrance, known as a torana, was inspired by Buddhist and Jain architecture, making it one of the earliest fusion-style temples in eastern India.

Points forts: Look closely at the stone pillars and you'll spot something odd: each one has a different decorative motif, as if two rival workshops competed to outdo each other with no final plan. The temple also has a hidden inscription in a dark corner that credits the architect's mother for funding the construction, a rare shout-out to a woman in 10th-century records.
