Faits rapides: Avec plus de 2 000 espèces de plantes réparties sur 273 acres, ce jardin botanique de style victorien remonte à 1787. Son célèbre grand banian, âgé de 200 ans, couvre 4,4 acres, ce qui en fait l'une des plus grandes canopées du monde.
Points forts: Le grand banian d'ici n'est pas seulement vieux, c'est une forêt vivante de plus de 3 600 racines aériennes qui ressemblent à des troncs individuels soutenant une seule canopée massive. Après un coup de foudre et une infection fongique dans les années 1920, le tronc principal d'origine a été retiré, mais l'arbre a continué à prospérer et à s'étendre, devenant essentiellement son propre clone.
