Faits rapides: Environ 3 000 ânes servent de seul moyen de transport dans des ruelles trop étroites pour tout véhicule. Près des trois quarts de ses bâtiments en pierre corallienne datent d'avant 1800, et les portes en bois finement sculptées retracent l'histoire et le statut de chaque famille.
Points forts: Vers la fin novembre, tout le front de mer se transforme en terrain de fête où courses de dhows, courses d'ânes et concours de henné se déroulent face au chenal turquoise. Le vrai secret, c'est de déambuler dans les ruelles sinueuses au crépuscule, quand le café à la cardamome et l'appel à la prière s'échappent des portes sculptées il y a plus de deux siècles.
