Faits rapides: Environ 200 espèces d'oiseaux se nourrissent et nichent le long de ce rivage, se mêlant aux girafes, waterbucks et zèbres résidents qui errent en liberté. Véritable péninsule en forme de croissant, elle ne fut reliée à la terre ferme qu'après la chute spectaculaire du niveau du lac dans les années 1980.
Points forts: Le lever du soleil ici appartient aux hippopotames, dont des dizaines passent toute la nuit à brouter l'herbe du rivage avant de se replonger dans le lac à quelques mètres de vos bottes. Sur la falaise orientale, on peut s'allonger à plat ventre au bord et regarder droit dans l'eau claire où ces géants dérivent, tandis que les pygargues appellent depuis les arbres morts au-dessus.
