À propos
Faits rapides: Spread across 7.5 hectares on the outskirts of Vilnius, this botanical garden houses over 10,000 plant species from around the world. Its arboretum contains Lithuania's largest collection of rhododendrons, exploding into a riot of pink and purple blooms each spring.
Points forts: Deep in the garden's arboretum stands an ancient oak tree that's over 200 years old, predating the botanical garden itself by decades. Local legend says that touching its bark on the summer solstice brings good luck, and you'll often spot small offerings like flowers or coins left at its base by visitors.
Conseils d'initiés
- Bring a picnic and claim one of the wooden benches near the pond, easily the best lunch spot on the grounds.
- Skip the main paths and explore the quieter sections near the back of the arboretum where the oldest trees stand.
- Visit after a light rain when the scents from the herb garden are strongest and the flower colors appear more saturated.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes, the gravel paths stretch farther than they look and you'll want to explore every corner.
