Faits rapides: Installé dans un palais néo-gothique saisissant du XIXe siècle, ce musée préserve plus de 180 000 objets d'art populaire lituanien. Sa collection couvre des sculptures en bois et en céramique, des textiles et des meubles peints qui retracent la vie rurale du XVIe siècle au début des années 1900.
Points forts: Trois retables en bois massifs, sculptés avec une grande complexité, datant du XVIIIe siècle dominent la salle principale, chacun pesant plus de deux tonnes et peint en bleus cobalt vifs et en rouges vermillon. Regardez attentivement les plus petites croix populaires exposées : certaines mesurent à peine quinze centimètres mais portent plus de 40 sculptures miniatures distinctes.
