Hacienda Mundaca
Meilleur moment pour visiter
Go early in the morning around 9 AM to beat the heat and have the ruins mostly to yourself. The midday sun makes the jungle humidity intense, and tour buses start arriving around 10:30 AM.
Conseils budget
Entry costs about 50 pesos (around $3 USD) per person, cash only. There are no combo passes or free days, but the price is cheap enough that it pairs well with a visit to nearby Playa Lancheros for lunch.

À propos
Faits rapides: Pirate Fermín Mundaca built this sprawling estate in the 1860s to impress a local woman known as La Trigueña, who never returned his affection. The abandoned ruins now sprawl over 20 acres of jungle, with a grand archway, a former slave market, and a zoo-like enclosure that once held exotic animals.
Points forts: Look closely at the crumbling main entrance: carved into the stone is a pirate's face and a skull and crossbones, Mundaca's personal signature left behind like a taunt to time. The eerie silence of the overgrown gardens makes it feel less like a tourist stop and more like stumbling onto a forgotten movie set where pirates once plotted.
Conseils d'initiés
- Bring bug spray and apply it before you arrive the mosquitoes here are relentless in the jungle shade.
- Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes the paths are uneven and you'll be climbing over old stone structures.
- Skip the midday visit when the sun is brutal instead come right when they open at 9 AM for the best light and coolest temperatures.
- Don't skip the small on-site museum near the entrance it has Mundaca's original furniture and a sword that belonged to the pirate himself.
