Faits rapides: More than three centuries after the Spanish conquest, local families in the area maintain community farming methods that mirror ancient Inca traditions. Terraces stretching over 1,400 meters are carved into steep mountainsides using precisely-cut stones that fit without mortar.

Points forts: An original Inca storage system, with stone 'andenerías', still channels mountain spring water through narrow canals to irrigate crops on steep terraces. Visitors can climb to the Temple of the Sun, where massive stones weighing up to 50 tons align to catch rays during solstices, creating dramatic light effects.
