Faits rapides: La collection obsessionnelle d'un seul homme pendant quatre décennies a rassemblé plus de 6 000 pièces allant des artefacts égyptiens aux arts décoratifs français. Le bâtiment lui-même est un chef-d'œuvre de l'architecture moderniste portugaise des années 1960, enroulé autour d'une cour de jardin tranquille.
Points forts: Gulbenkian a personnellement sélectionné chaque pièce de ce musée, et son goût penchait vers la perfection plutôt que les tendances. Vous verrez une seule pièce où un manuscrit arménien enluminé du XIVe siècle se trouve près d'un vase en verre de Lalique et d'une peinture de Rembrandt, choisis purement parce que le collectionneur les aimait.
