Faits rapides: Die Festung diente ursprünglich als Polizeistation und Küstenwache, bevor sie zum Museum umfunktioniert wurde. Ihre dicken Kalksteinmauern bieten selbst an den heißesten Golf-Tagen angenehme Kühle im Inneren.
Points forts: Von den Zinnen der Festung hat man einen atemberaubenden 360-Grad-Blick über die einstige perlentaucher-Stadt Al Zubarah, deren Ruinen seit 2013 UNESCO-Welterbe sind. Wer genau hinschaut, erkennt noch die Umrisse von über 60 Moscheen und Hunderten von Häusern, die unter dem Wüstensand verborgen liegen.
