Faits rapides: La réserve protège 47 000 hectares de formations rocheuses volcaniques anciennes, certains piliers atteignant 100 mètres de haut. Plus de 200 000 visiteurs parcourent ses sentiers chaque année, mais seulement 13 des 79 formations rocheuses nommées sont facilement accessibles aux randonneurs occasionnels.

Points forts: Les habitants ont donné à chaque pilier un surnom basé sur ce qu'il évoque : Grand-père, Plumes, La Grange, et même un rocher appelé La Grenouille. La tradition la plus audacieuse est le « stolbisme », un sport local où les grimpeurs escaladent les piliers de granit lisse sans cordes, utilisant uniquement leur force et des techniques vieilles de plusieurs décennies transmises de génération en génération.

• Take the bus 50 or 37 from Krasnoyarsk city center to the Laletino stop, which drops you right at the main trail entrance.
• For the best photo of the pillars, hike to the viewing platform at the Second Pillar around 9 AM when the morning light hits the granite face.
• Skip the crowded Central Pillars area on weekends and head to the Takmak district instead, which has equally impressive rocks and far fewer people.
• Wear sturdy hiking boots with good grip, as the granite surfaces can be deceptively slippery even when dry.
