Faits rapides: S'étendant sur plus de 120 kilomètres à travers le centre de Riyad, cette vallée tentaculaire se transforme en une rivière rugissante lors des pluies hivernales. Le projet de réhabilitation de 80 kilomètres a transformé un canal d'inondation dégradé en un corridor verdoyant désormais visité par plus de 500 000 personnes chaque année.
Points forts: Au coucher du soleil, levez les yeux vers les falaises bordant les murs de la vallée : des dizaines de tours de guet du XIXe siècle montent encore la garde, leurs silhouettes en briques de terre crue brillant en orange contre la lumière déclinante. Une tour près du district d'Al-Ilb conserve encore ses poutres en bois et sa toiture en palmes d'origine, exactement comme construite il y a plus de 150 ans.
