Mary King's Close
Meilleur moment pour visiter
Weekday mornings just after opening (10 AM) are quietest. Winter months (November-February) have fewer visitors and feel more atmospheric with the early darkness.
Conseils budget
Tickets cost around £20-24 for adults, with small discounts for students and seniors. No free entry days exist, but the Royal Mile pass or Edinburgh City Pass includes it and saves money if visiting multiple attractions.

À propos
Faits rapides: Almost 400 years of history lie preserved beneath the city, frozen at the moment plague swept through in 1645. The close was sealed off and forgotten for centuries, with some rooms still containing the original furniture and belongings of the last residents.
Points forts: One room still holds the original 17th-century wooden floorboards that children played on and plague victims walked across, their scuff marks visible under dim candlelight. You can stand in the actual living spaces where families huddled together during outbreaks, the same cold stone walls pressing in around you.
Conseils d'initiés
- Book tickets online in advance, day-of walk-up slots often sell out especially in summer and weekends.
- Wear flat, sturdy shoes with grip, the original stone stairs and uneven floors are slippery and steep.
- Ask your guide about the Annie story at the end, they'll point out a detail most visitors miss.
- Skip the gift shop exit route if you're short on time, the real experience is entirely underground.
