Faits rapides: S'étendant sur plus de 1,2 kilomètre, ces fortifications médiévales enveloppaient autrefois toute la vieille ville dans une étreinte de pierre protectrice. Près de 80 pour cent des murs d'origine restent intacts, ce qui en fait l'un des systèmes de murailles les mieux préservés de Slovaquie.
Points forts: Contrairement à la plupart des murs médiévaux qui ont été démolis pour le développement urbain, ceux-ci ont survécu parce que les habitants ont transformé des sections en murs arrière de leurs maisons et jardins. En longeant l'étroit chemin à côté d'eux, vous pouvez encore repérer des meurtrières d'origine et un bastion Renaissance du XVIe siècle avec des murs de plus de deux mètres d'épaisseur.
