Tatra National Park (TANAP)
Meilleur moment pour visiter
Late June through September for hiking when all trails and mountain huts are open. Visit on a weekday morning to avoid crowds on popular routes like the hike to Rysy peak.
Conseils budget
Entry to the park is free, but paid parking at trailheads costs 3-5 euros per day. Purchase a TANAP hiking map (about 4 euros) at information centers rather than relying on spotty mobile reception in the valleys.

À propos
Faits rapides: Tatra National Park spans 738 square kilometers across Slovakia's highest mountain range, protecting over 1,300 species of vascular plants. More than 600 caves riddle the limestone terrain, including the 1.8-kilometer-long Belianska Cave with its intricate stalactite formations.
Points forts: At dawn, the granite peaks of Kriváň reflect across mountain lakes called plesá, turning the water an impossible shade of turquoise. Over 600 chamois, a rare goat-antelope species, nimbly scale the vertical cliffs here, their hooves finding holds invisible to the human eye.
Conseils d'initiés
- Skip the cable car to Lomnický štít on cloudy days; you'll see nothing but fog at the top.
- Pack swim trunks in summer. Popradské pleso and Štrbské pleso allow swimming in designated areas.
- Start your hike before 7 AM to spot chamois grazing near the treeline before they retreat to higher elevations.
- Bring cash. Mountain huts only accept euros in cash and a bowl of bryndzové halušky costs about 6 euros.
