Meilleur moment pour visiter

Spring and autumn mornings bring clear air and soft light over the cliffs. Time your walk for low tide so you can drop to the waterline and see the fossil beds up close.

Conseils budget

The trails, lighthouse grounds, and hermitage are all free to explore year-round. Skip the paid viewpoints and bring your own water and snacks, since the nearest cafe is a steep walk away and the campsite restaurant only runs in summer.

À propos

Faits rapides: Rising about 250 meters above the coast, this headland keeps its geological layers on full display, with cliffsides holding rock strata laid down roughly 60 million years ago. A lighthouse on the eastern flank still guides ships toward the nearby port, while a tiny hermitage and a bird of prey recovery center share the wooded slopes.

Points forts: Walk the cliff-edge trail at low tide and you'll look straight down at the flysch, vertical folds of ocean rock that look like an accordion left to petrify, with fossilized ammonites visible in the exposed stone. Local guides say those strata were stood on end during the same tectonic violence that shoved the Pyrenees upward, making this one of the few spots in Europe where you can touch geology that old by hand.

Conseils d'initiés

  • Wear sturdy trainers or hiking boots, since the crest path is gravelly and turns slippery after rain.
  • Arrive by 9am on weekends to have the cliff trail largely to yourself before the day-trippers show up.
  • At low tide, find the small stone staircase that drops from the crest to the water level, that's where the spiraled ammonite fossils are easiest to spot.
  • Skip the north-facing leg on gusty days, the wind near the edge can be strong enough to unbalance you.
