Faits rapides: Abritant plus de 20 000 animaux de 700 espèces, ce zoo est le plus ancien zoo scientifique du monde. Son emblématique Reptile House est apparue dans les films Harry Potter, et la piscine des pingouins a été conçue par le même architecte qui a créé le Tardis pour Doctor Who.
Points forts: L'exposition Land of the Lions du zoo vous permet de traverser un complexe de temples indiens reconstitué où des lions d'Asie évoluent à quelques mètres derrière une vitre, vous laissant entendre leurs rugissements vibrer dans votre poitrine. Contrairement à la plupart des enclos de zoo, celui-ci a été construit autour de l'historique maison des girafes classée Grade II, mêlant conservation moderne et architecture victorienne.
