About

Faits rapides: Walking in, the lobby's gilded plasterwork and beaded crystal chandelier make the place feel like stepping onto an old Hollywood set. A 1,600-seat auditorium hosts films, concerts, and community shows, and the hush before the curtains rise has a palpable, anticipatory crackle.

Points forts: You can still hear a 1928 Wurlitzer organ roar through overtures, its pipes and bellows producing a warm, mechanical rumble that vibrates through your chest. On select evenings the house lights drop and vintage film nights fill nearly 1,600 seats while the organist improvises live, so you watch and listen like you're part of a 90-year-old movie club.

Insider tips

  • Arrive 20 to 30 minutes early to photograph the lobby and catch any organ pre-show demonstrations.
  • Dress smart casual and bring a light layer, the main house can be cool once the doors close.
  • Aim for center orchestra or front mezzanine seats for the best views of the stage and atmospheric ceiling, avoid extreme side boxes if sightlines matter.
  • Check the theater calendar before you go; special backstage tours and organ concerts often require separate tickets.

Arrived at 11am for the backstage tour and there was almost no one, so no wait. Guide friendly but the tour felt rushed and the $20 fee was not worth it.

Came for the 7pm concert, doors opened at 6:15 and the line moved fast. Stunning theater, balcony views great, concessions pricey but the performance was worth it.
