Brze činjenice: Perched on a granite boulder in Copenhagen's harbor, this 1.25-meter-tall bronze figure has been gently weathering Danish sea air since 1913. More than 1 million people visit her each year, making her one of the most photographed statues in the world despite her surprisingly small size.
Istaknuto: Her head was once stolen by activists in 1964 and later recovered from a nearby lake, and vandals have sawed off her arm twice. Each incident added a new chapter to her story, making her less a pristine monument and more a scrappy survivor of Copenhagen's recent history.
