Brze činjenice: Roughly 30 artificial caves, some with multiple rooms and carved drainage channels, were chiseled by hand into a sandstone cliff by Byzantine monks and villagers. Later residents kept living in these same caves into the 1600s, leaving behind cooking niches, grain silos, and a tiny rock church with faded fresco remnants.
Istaknuto: Inside one chamber, a series of small carved basins and channels fed by a natural spring hints that the community rigged an early water distribution system centuries ago. Look closely at the soot-blackened ceilings and you can almost smell the decades of woodsmoke from families who cooked and warmed themselves in these dark rooms.
