Weather was perfect for exploring castles but the crowds around Gifu Castle were a bit too much for a weekday, plan early mornings for fewer tourists.
Gifu has such a chill vibe, loved trying the local river fish dishes but the summer humidity was brutal, maybe spring or fall visit is better.
If you want the best views, skip the main lookout platforms and hike up a bit on the trails behind the castle, way less crowded and free!
Get a prepaid IC card at the station, it works on buses and trains and saves a lot of hassle, especially if you're hopping between towns.
Local markets have the freshest veggies and snacks, tasted some delightful mochi that felt way more authentic than the usual tourist spots.
