Chochołów Village

Najbolje vrijeme za posjet

Visit on a weekday morning between May and September, when the light hits the weathered wood at its best angle and crowds are thin. Winter visits offer a magical contrast of dark logs against fresh snow, but some houses close earlier.

Savjeti za budžet

Entry to the open-air museum costs around 18 PLN (roughly 4 EUR), with discounted tickets for students and seniors. Arrive before noon to avoid the afternoon surcharge added during peak summer weekends.

O atrakciji

Brze činjenice: This wooden village stretches 1.5 kilometers along a single road, lined with 127 historic log houses dating back to the 19th century. Its most famous residents were the Stoch and Stacho families, whose descendants still occupy some of the same homes today.

Istaknuto: Every single house in the village was built without a single nail, using only interlocking log joints and wooden pegs, a technique that has kept them standing for over 150 years. Step inside any of the open cottages and you will smell the lingering scent of woodsmoke and linseed oil, exactly as it would have been in the 1800s.

Insajderski savjeti

  • Walk to the far end of the village first, then work your way back toward the entrance to avoid the main crowd clusters.
  • Photograph House No. 65 at golden hour: its south-facing facade catches the best warm light of the day.
  • Wear shoes with good grip in winter, the wooden walkways freeze over and get slippery fast.
  • Skip the audio guide and instead chat with the elderly caretakers, many are descendants of the original builders and tell better stories.
