Főbb látnivalók: A Sötét Templom onnan kapta a nevét, hogy szinte nincsenek ablakai, és ez az állandó homály az oka annak, hogy 11. századi bibliai freskói ilyen érintetlen állapotban maradtak fenn. Egyetlen természetes fénysugár éri a Pantokrátor Krisztus kupolafestményét épp a megfelelő szögben, amitől az arany glóriák szinte izzani látszanak a mélykék háttér előtt.

- Pay the separate entry fee for the Dark Church, its frescoes are dramatically more vivid than any other chapel here.
- Visit the Apple Church and Snake Church early in your walk before crowds cluster in the narrow corridors between chapels.
- Wear comfortable shoes with good grip, the carved stone pathways and steep stair climbs between chapels can be slippery.
- Photography inside the chapels is often restricted, but you can capture excellent exterior shots of the rock-cut facades from the upper pathway.
