Fatti rapidi: Circa 29 tozze torri circolari come questa un tempo punteggiavano la costa orientale dell'Irlanda, ciascuna sormontata da una piattaforma girevole con i cannoni. Guarnigioni di circa 15 soldati si stipavano tra mura spesse quasi 3 metri, vivendo di provviste conservate in una fresca e buia stanza inferiore.
Punti salienti: I cannoni sul tetto potevano scagliare una palla da 24 libbre a oltre un miglio attraverso la baia, eppure il guscio curvo di pietra fu progettato per assorbire i colpi di cannone senza sgretolarsi.
