Praça do Comércio (Terreiro do Paço)
Best time to visit
Early morning or late afternoon offers soft light for photos and far fewer tourists; avoid midday in summer when heat and crowds peak.
Budget tips
Access to the square is free, no ticket required; consider a Lisboa Card for free public transport and discounts at nearby museums, and carry small change for cafés and kiosks to avoid card minimums.

About
Insider tips
- Wear comfortable shoes, cobblestones and slight inclines can be slippery after rain.
- Best photos are taken from the centre of the square facing the Tagus, with the Rua Augusta arch framing the river.
- Avoid weekends midday by visiting early morning or around golden hour to escape tour groups.
- Step down to the riverside promenade for calmer views, and keep valuables secure in crowded areas.

4.3Sunset after 7pm was magical with fewer tourists. Street performers made it lively, though souvenir stalls are overpriced.
Went at noon on a Saturday, very crowded. Took a 20 euro boat tour that felt a bit overpriced, but there are great photo spots by the arch.
Arrived at 8am, almost empty and peaceful. Free to stroll the plaza and riverside, the views were worth it but cafes are pricey.
Visited with kids in the afternoon; lots of space for them to run. The plaza is free and lovely but nearby museum fees add to the day cost.
