Fatti rapidi: Il Danubio ha scavato questo sistema di gole lungo 100 chilometri nel corso di milioni di anni, creando il passaggio fluviale più spettacolare d'Europa. Le pareti rocciose si innalzano fino a 300 metri sopra l'acqua nel punto più stretto, dove il fiume si restringe a soli 150 metri di larghezza.
Punti salienti: La Tavola di Traiano, una lapide commemorativa romana scolpita direttamente nella parete della scogliera, segna ancora il punto in cui l'esercito dell'imperatore Traiano costruì una strada larga 33 metri lungo la parete rocciosa verticale nel 100 d.C.
