Fatti rapidi: Over 300 cavities were carved into the volcanic tuff face of this 80-meter-high cliff, forming the largest pre-Hispanic granary in the Canary Islands. The indigenous Canarios stored barley and wheat here, using the porous stone's natural humidity control to keep grain fresh through the winter.
Punti salienti: Early Spanish colonizers mistook the hundreds of cave openings for a convent and named it Cenobio, but locals knew it as the island's ancient food bank. Each cavity was sealed with a stone slab and clay, creating individual silos that could hold enough grain to feed entire families through harsh seasons.
