Fatti rapidi: The tomb took 11 years to build and employed thousands of workers who were paid in rice. Tu Duc designed his own final resting place complete with a perch for fishing and an island for hunting.
Punti salienti: Tu Duc was so terrified of grave robbers that after the burial, all 200 workers who knew the tomb's true location were beheaded. The actual coffin rests somewhere else entirely, meaning the elaborate complex you walk through is essentially a decoy palace.
