Look above the shopfronts and you'll find a tiny carved hound by a lintel, polished smooth by generations who touch it for safe journeys; meanwhile the air mixes salt and roasted almonds from a vendor cart, and voices blend into a chorus that feels like someone rewiring the city into song.
