Aqaba Marine Park / Coral Reefs
Best time to visit
Early morning visits, roughly 7–10am, offer the calmest seas and best visibility because winds rise in the afternoon. Spring and autumn bring milder water temperatures and fewer jellyfish than peak summer.
Budget tips
Small conservation fees usually apply, typically in the low single-digit Jordan Dinar range, and children often pay reduced rates. Save by joining shared snorkeling boats, bringing your own snorkel set, or booking a dive package that bundles gear and transport.

About
Quick facts: Shallow coral gardens lie close to shore, so colorful fish and branching corals are visible from a simple snorkel rather than a deep dive. On calm days water clarity exceeds 20 meters, and divers frequently spot hawksbill turtles, stingrays, and schooling reef fish within short swims.
Highlights: A single reef stretch hosts more than 250 recorded fish species and roughly 30 hard coral species, producing vivid mosaics of purple, orange, and lime green. Night dives reveal bright-green bioluminescent plankton and sleeping parrotfish, while shallow sand flats often hide sleeping turtles within ten meters of the reef edge.
Insider tips
- Wear reef-safe sunscreen and a rash guard; the sun and shallow reflections intensify UV exposure.
- Bring your own mask and fins if possible, rental gear can be limited and sizing runs out on busy days.
- Aim for the first boat out to avoid crowds and to catch the calmest water for photos.
- Keep at least an arm's length from coral and use a float plate or buoyancy control while diving to avoid accidental contact.
