1. Baščaršija

2. Kravica Waterfall

Swim beneath a 20-meter curtain of water at one of Europe's most refreshing natural swimming pools. Wade into turquoise pools, sunbathe on smooth rocks, and picnic in the spray of the falls.

Raske fakta: Over 20 meters tall and spanning 100 meters across, this tufa waterfall was formed over thousands of years by mineral-rich water depositing calcium carbonate. Summer visitors cool off in the deep turquoise swimming hole beneath the cascades, surrounded by lush greenery that feels a world away from nearby cities.

Høydepunkter: Unlike most waterfalls you can only admire from a distance, you can swim right up to the base of these 20-meter cascades and let the cool water pound your shoulders in a natural massage. The falls spread across a 100-meter-wide horseshoe, creating a massive open-air swimming pool surrounded by cliffs draped in moss and ferns.

3. Sarajevo Tunnel of Hope

4. Blagaj Tekija

A 16th-century Dervish monastery built into a sheer limestone cliff above a massive turquoise spring. You sip Bosnian coffee on a wooden deck while the roar of 30,000 liters of water per second surges beneath your feet.

Raske fakta: Spring water at base of the cliff stays at a constant 10°C year-round, powering the whirlpools visible beneath the wooden terrace. Only 30 monks have ever lived here at one time, maintaining centuries of Dervish hospitality traditions.

Høydepunkter: The multi-tiered wooden terrace hangs so close to the cliff face that you can reach out and touch the cold, dripping rock while sipping tea inside. Unlike most historic religious sites, this is still an active gathering place where locals come not just to pray, but to play chess and read poetry by the rushing spring waters.

5. Sutjeska National Park

Step into Europe's last old-growth rainforest where bears and wolves still roam freely. Hike through primeval beech forests to a thundering 75-meter waterfall hidden in the valley.

Raske fakta: Europe's last primeval rainforest, Perućica, covers 1,434 hectares within the park. The park also protects the 2,386-meter Maglić mountain, Bosnia's highest peak.

Høydepunkter: Deep inside Perućica forest, trees have been growing and dying untouched for centuries; some fallen beeches measure over 50 meters long and are completely covered in thick moss. The Skakavac waterfall drops 75 meters into a turquoise pool where the water temperature hovers around 6°C year-round, with mist creating rainbows on sunny afternoons.

6. Počitelj Old Town

Počitelj

Step into a living Ottoman painting, frozen in time since the 15th century. You'll wander cobblestone alleys past stone mosques, climb a medieval fortress tower, and hear only the sound of the river below.

Raske fakta: Perched on a steep hillside above the Neretva River, this fortified village has been continuously inhabited since the 14th century. The octagonal clock tower is one of the few surviving examples of Ottoman-era timekeeping architecture in the entire Balkan region.

Høydepunkter: Climb the 200-plus uneven stone steps to the top of the citadel and you'll be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Neretva River snaking through the emerald valley below. The wooden shutters on the old stone houses still creak in the same way they did when Ottoman travelers rested here along the Dubrovnik-Sarajevo caravan route.
