Passersby say every visit feels different because sunlight, wear, and new additions alter the mood, turning the route into an ever-shifting urban artwork.

Locals and travelers still slide tiny painted tiles and handwritten notes into cracks as an unofficial ritual, and on carnival nights the whole stairway smells of grilled meat, bursts with samba and echoes like a living mosaic.
